September 2026’s State of Play had barely been confirmed before a new rumour surfaced about the month’s other big event: the Nintendo Direct. Every September, the two Japanese giants traditionally each hold a major showcase. This year, Nintendo’s should be all about Zelda: Ocarina of Time, due out sometime this year but still without a date. September 10 has already been floated by a well-known leaker who has leaked information about previous Nintendo Directs, and the Just Dance developers may have unwittingly confirmed it.
The next Nintendo Direct on September 10, 2026?
SwitchForce, who has already called some of Nintendo’s earlier showcases correctly, had put forward September 10, 2026 for the next Nintendo Direct, without saying whether it was a genuine leak or just a prediction. Except that Ubisoft may have confirmed the date in spite of itself. Several dataminers managed to pull information straight from the publisher’s backend servers, including video and animation files tied to the next Just Dance, after some retailers posted product listings early.
The whole thing happened a month ago, but Ubisoft has only just responded to the leaks around its game, announcing that the official reveal of the next Just Dance will take place on September 10, 2026. To the community, the coincidence looks far too big to be one, especially since the two previous entries were both announced during past Nintendo Directs.
What to expect from the showcase?
As always, treat all of this with caution until there’s an official announcement. But everything seems to be pointing to a Nintendo Direct on September 10, 2026. Zelda: Ocarina of Time should obviously get a substantial spotlight at the event, seeing as it still has no proper release date. The Nintendo Switch 2 marking Zelda’s 40th anniversary has also already turned up in leaked images, and all it needs now is to be made official. Beyond that, we can expect a mix of new titles and ports, such as the native versions of Kingdom Hearts or Metaphor: ReFantazio. We’d also like to see the Nintendo Switch 2 version of FF7 Revelation running, already confirmed for September’s State of Play.
On the exclusives side, Nintendo could use the occasion to give Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave one final showing before it launches on September 17, 2026. The company should also pull out all the stops for its next exclusive, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort. Following its closed beta, The Duskbloods, FromSoftware’s multiplayer game, could officially reveal its gameplay at the September 2026 Nintendo Direct. Here at the office, we’re hoping to finally get a release date for Witchbrook, the “magical Stardew Valley” that’s been in development for 10 years and, as of the latest we’ve heard, is still meant to arrive in 2026. In the same vein, we’re patiently waiting on a new date for Grave Season, expected in autumn 2026.
