Just under a year since launch, the Nintendo Switch 2 still has something to prove. Its exclusive lineup is gradually filling out, and 2026 should give Nintendo the opportunity to address what many felt was a thin launch catalog. Mario Tennis Fever, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weaver are among the titles set to add real weight to the new hybrid console this year. But where the Switch 2 still has the most to demonstrate is its ability to handle modern AAA games, ambitious open worlds, and more demanding titles.
Borderlands 4 has been pushed back on Nintendo Switch 2 indefinitely, and 007: First Light will wait until summer before taking the portable plunge. That said, the console could also become the perfect second home for acclaimed games that flew under the radar the first time around, and one particularly underrated title has just leaked for the platform.
An underrated Marvel game is reportedly heading to Nintendo Switch 2
Once again, it’s a ratings board that has let the cat out of the bag. Taiwan’s classification authority has revealed the existence of a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Guardians of the Galaxy, arguably the most underrated Marvel game to date. Originally released on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC in October 2021, the game did make it to the original Nintendo Switch, but only via cloud streaming. Like the recent Resident Evil titles, and Kingdom Hearts if the rumors are to be believed, it looks set to finally get a proper native release on the hybrid console. Its gameplay loop, it has to be said, feels tailor-made for portable play.
With Guardians of the Galaxy, Eidos-Montréal delivered a surprisingly accomplished adaptation, especially in the wake of Marvel’s Avengers’ spectacular failure. Square Enix’s action-adventure title leaned fully into its linear structure, prioritizing storytelling, humor, and team dynamics over any kind of gameplay risk-taking. The combat was familiar, the team abilities somewhat conventional, and the loop admittedly repetitive, but that same loop lends itself perfectly to shorter play sessions, making it an ideal fit for the Switch 2. Where the game truly shone was in its sharp writing, confident direction, and a soundtrack soaked in ’80s nostalgia.
A second life for a forgotten gem?
Now it’s simply a matter of waiting for a release date and an official announcement. The community is already rallying behind it, urging anyone who missed it the first time around to give it a shot when it lands on Switch 2. « It was such a good game, so underrated, » and « it would actually be perfect for the console » are among the reactions already making the rounds, enthusiasm that feels entirely warranted for a port nobody was expecting, but that everyone seems ready to welcome with open arms.
