Some FF7 Fans Have Been Dreaming of This for Years, and It’s Apparently Capcom Who’s Making It Happen

Driven by Fortnite’s endless collaboration machine, crossovers between major gaming franchises have become a fixture of the industry. Square Enix has emerged as one of its most enthusiastic participants, with the iconic 2B from NieR appearing seemingly everywhere, while Lara Croft and Geralt of Rivia continue to pop up well outside their home universes. Most of these alliances feel somewhat random, but that hasn’t stopped certain fan communities from dreaming of more logical, long-overdue pairings. Tifa, the beloved face of FF7, has become the focal point of exactly those hopes. And her wish may be about to come true, in a game nobody saw coming.

Tifa from FF7 coming to Street Fighter 6?

It had become such a recurring request that it was almost a running joke within fighting game communities. The idea of Tifa Lockhart making her way into Tekken had started to feel more like a fantasy than a realistic possibility, Bandai Namco never seemed particularly interested in making it happen, even as collaborations proliferated everywhere else. In a twist nobody predicted, it apparently won’t be Tekken that lands the fighter after all, but a direct competitor. According to multiple leaks circulating in the usual fighting game circles, it’s Capcom that is reportedly set to welcome the FF7 heroine into the Street Fighter 6 roster.

With the current season drawing to a close and Ingrid’s arrival on the horizon, speculation about Season 4’s fighter lineup has been running hot. Classic missing roster additions like Balrog, Dudley, and Sakura remain on fans’ wish lists, but Season 4 is reportedly leaning heavily into guest characters. The current rumored lineup includes Vega, Haggar, and Gouken, alongside the FF7 fighter herself. The information comes from a leaker who correctly called the Season 2 lineup, backed up by sources at TheGamer.

Bad news for Tekken fans?

It’s a tough pill to swallow for the Tekken community, who have been lobbying for the martial arts specialist’s inclusion in Bandai Namco’s series for years. Instead, they got Clive from FF16. “It’s not like we’re limited to one Final Fantasy character,” series producer Katsuhiro Harada told a frustrated fanbase back in December 2024, a comment that reads rather differently in light of these latest rumors.

If the leaks prove accurate, and the usual caveats apply until anything is confirmed, Bandai Namco may have just taken a serious hit from its rival. The prospect of Tifa from FF7 trading blows alongside Ryu and Chun-Li is, it has to be said, genuinely exciting. We’ll find out in the weeks or months ahead.
