The Lord of the Rings RPG Everyone Was Waiting For Has Finally Been Announced, and You Couldn’t Dream of a Better Studio

Some announcements just make you smile, and this is one of them. One of the most acclaimed studios of the moment, known for its work on two outstanding and painstakingly detailed RPGs, has just revealed a brand new Lord of the Rings game. Given the studio’s pedigree, it’s already the stuff of dreams for fans, and more than a few are openly wondering whether The Elder Scrolls 6 should be worried.

A surprise announcement that has Lord of the Rings fans losing their minds

There have been a lot of RPGs in recent years, but few generated as much conversation as Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Thanks to its meticulous gameplay and deeply immersive medieval atmosphere, the game was a runaway success. While Warhorse Studios is clearly far from done with its flagship franchise, a new installment is already in the works, the studio has just announced it is simultaneously developing something considerably more ambitious: an open-world RPG set in the universe of The Lord of the Rings, exactly as rumors had suggested. Needless to say, fans are already buzzing, and some genuinely believe it could stand toe to toe with the long-awaited Elder Scrolls 6.

The great RPG everyone has been waiting for, and knowing this studio, expect a faithful recreation and gameplay crafted with extraordinary care. Hopefully it’ll flow a little more smoothly than Kingdom Come: Deliverance at times, but on paper, the prospect is enormously exciting. The timing couldn’t be better either, the next Lord of the Rings film is fast approaching, and Amazon has quietly cancelled its own LOTR game, leaving a significant gap in the market.

Fans have been asking for a great Lord of the Rings RPG for years, and it looks like they’re finally going to get one. For now, the studio hasn’t shared further details, no word on where development stands, or what story the game will tell. That hasn’t stopped anyone from already picturing themselves wandering through Minas Tirith, descending into Moria, or venturing into the dark lands of Mordor.
