In just a few hours, PlayStation will officially pull back the curtain on the August 2026 PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium lineup. One of the games reserved for subscribers on the top tier has been known for a while now: Onimusha Dawn of Dreams, a PS2-era classic landing shortly before the series’ big comeback. And now Sony has confirmed a second title, one that was a smash hit at launch: Helldivers 2.

The war is far from over in Helldivers 2. While regular players keep defending Super Earth’s interests, Arrowhead’s co-op shooter has just received a beefy new update: “Devoid of Liberty.” High Command is now sending Helldivers to the edge of the Void, a fiercely hostile region where the planets appear to have undergone strange mutations. The deeper soldiers push into the area, the more dramatic those transformations become, with no way of knowing what’s really waiting for them in its depths. And to let as many players as possible experience this major new update, PlayStation has announced that, surprise, Helldivers 2 is now available with PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium.
A major new update is live
So there’s no need to wait until August 18 to head to the front. The update brings new objectives to tackle, including destroying Illuminate spires and gateways, infiltrating certain enemy structures, and running reconnaissance missions. And of course, a new region means new critters. The arrival in the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalog comes with two new mutants who aren’t remotely pacifist. The Wretch relies on speed and agility to overwhelm Helldivers. The Crusher, on the other hand, is more of a furious walking health bar, able to soak up serious damage before hitting straight back.
Thankfully, veteran soldiers and fresh PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium recruits won’t be walking into the meat grinder entirely alone. They can now count on SEAF platoons to lend a hand, providing medical support and a bit of moral support in these times of war. Because yes, you’ll be able to shake their hands like real men, or hug them like real soldiers. Any PS Plus Extra and Premium member who needed an excuse to suit up and scream “FOR SUPER EARTH” has now found one. Democracy isn’t going to defend itself.
The main new features in the Helldivers 2
- New region, the Void: planets warped by strange mutations, with the changes growing more severe the closer you get to the Void itself.

- 2 new mutant enemies: the Wretch (fast, nimble, dodges counter-attacks) and the Crusher (soaks up heavy damage, hits back hard, regenerates).
- New primary objectives: destroy Illuminate spires and gateways, run data reconnaissance, infiltrate Illuminate structures.
- New secondary objectives: eradicate Void mutations, extract research materials, open a secondary extraction zone.
- Extended progression: all 300 ranks of security access and privileges, plus new rank titles.
