“This Is Perfect” New Zelda Movie Images Leak Early and Fans Are Already Won Over

Following the colossal success of the first Super Mario Bros. movie, which grossed $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office, and with its sequel currently in cinemas and already approaching $700 million, Nintendo is clearly pushing hard to expand its presence on the big screen. The next iconic duo to make the leap to live-action will be none other than Zelda and Link, in a movie whose New Zealand shoot has just wrapped. Scheduled for May 7th, 2027, the project had already been unofficially glimpsed through behind-the-scenes footage captured on set. Now, new official images of the Zelda movie have surfaced, shared ahead of any formal announcement by members of the crew.

A new look at the Zelda movie

With filming complete, the production has moved into post. Nintendo is keeping its cards close to its chest for now, with no official image reveal planned in the immediate future, but the wait for a new look didn’t last long. Gyula Pados, the film’s director of photography, shared, then reportedly deleted, an image of Link (an artwork), offering the first glimpse of his iconic Master Sword. “This is perfect, it’s going to be a blend of traditional Link and BOTW Link,” commented one fan, capturing the mood of an enthusiastic community perfectly.

Even more significant was the movie’s official logo, which also surfaced ahead of any announcement, and it generated considerable buzz. The typography and iconography draw clearly from Breath of the Wild, immediately fueling speculation that the Zelda movie will lean heavily on the most recent era of the franchise. That’s hardly a surprise, earlier images had already shown the princess in her blue tunic, synonymous with the Nintendo Switch era.

And yet, the latest image of Link sees him dressed again in his traditional green, a clear nod to the series’ classic roots. It seems safe to assume Nintendo is aiming to strike a balance that satisfies both purists and newcomers alike. All that’s left is to wait for an official communication to confirm what these early glimpses are already strongly suggesting.
