While things are starting to heat up around the return of Harry Potter on HBO, players are waiting for just one thing: a proper announcement of Hogwarts Legacy 2. As we already know, Avalanche Software is actively working on the sequel to its hit RPG released in 2023, which has now sold over 40 million copies. And the good news is that, as time goes on, more and more signs seem to point toward the imminent start of communication around this upcoming project.
A major announcement on the way for Hogwarts Legacy 2?
Beyond the many rumors and speculations about what the game might include, we now know for certain that Warner Bros. is preparing the return of its major franchises for the 2027-2028 window. It’s therefore hard to imagine Avalanche’s title not being part of that lineup, especially since the publisher will likely want to capitalize on the release of the Harry Potter series to hit two birds with one stone. And indeed, while the new series recently received its first trailer along with a making-of feature, there has also been movement on the Hogwarts Legacy 2 side.
The team recently welcomed a new Community Manager. « Hi everyone! I’m Cody (or Vaknar), the new Community Manager for Hogwarts Legacy here at Avalanche Software!, » reads a message posted on the studio’s social media on April 6. An announcement that may not be insignificant. « You don’t hire a Community Manager USUALLY unless the Studio is ready to progress from quiet development to public development for a game…ie marketing., » noted user XpectoGO on X following the news. « We saw this with Hogwarts Legacy and Chandler Wood the previous Community Manager. Who announced his hire in December 2021, what followed was the Hogwarts Legacy State of Play in March 2022 with nonstop marketing leading to its launch in 2023…. »

Clues are piling up, fans are getting impatient
Could this be a sign that the first official announcements for Hogwarts Legacy 2 are on the way? Possibly. Especially since this comes at a time when a State of Play appears to be on the horizon at PlayStation, which handled all communication for the first game. It’s not unreasonable to imagine that the partnership between Sony and Avalanche has been renewed, and that Hogwarts Legacy 2 could be revealed during a Sony event.
Does that necessarily mean the game could be announced this week, more specifically on April 16 during the rumored State of Play? There’s no way to say for sure. In any case, one thing is certain: Harry Potter fans will be watching closely, hoping to finally get a glimpse of what the future holds for the franchise, one that may also tie into the upcoming HBO series, currently scheduled to air in late 2026.
