The Sims 4 has lost considerable goodwill with its longtime community. Recent developments, including EA’s acquisition by a Saudi Arabian investment fund, compounded by a string of deeply unpopular decisions, the marketplace being the most glaring example, have created a real rift between Maxis and its players. The studio is visibly struggling to navigate the gap between what its community expects and what a publisher desperate to offset a $20 billion acquisition deficit is demanding. Behind the scenes, it’s no longer much of a secret that teams are working on the franchise’s future, which reportedly involves something of a Sims 4.5, though the whole thing remains shrouded in uncertainty.
Until Maxis and EA lay out their plans later in the year, the studio continues to work through The Sims 4’s long list of persistent bugs with a steady stream of updates. This latest one still doesn’t address the save corruption issue that has plagued the game since the For Rent DLC arrived over two years ago. Unsurprisingly, the focus falls primarily on EA’s new priority: the marketplace.
A new update for The Sims 4
The reigning king of life simulation moves to version 1.123.85.1020 on PC and version 2.32 on console. On PC, the only change is an improvement to Gallery search. Several players had noticed that results weren’t consistently matching their queries, traced back to a filter issue that has now been resolved. The console patch, meanwhile, focuses almost entirely on the marketplace, EA’s new in-game storefront, which the publisher appears to be watching with considerable financial interest. The fixes cover a range of issues, from moola purchases, the new microtransaction currency, failing to correctly reflect in the in-game balance, to unwanted notifications firing at the wrong times. Here’s the full breakdown of what this Sims 4 update changes:
Base Game Update
- When using the Gallery, some players realized that the results did not match expectations. Due to an issue with our filtering, the incorrect responses were being returned in some situations. No uploads to the Gallery were removed and are still available to view, engage with and download.
Console Updates
- At launch, some PlayStation Simmers who purchased Moola found that it did not reflect in their wallet balance in-game. We identified the issue and rolled out an update on our backend and confirmed with impacted players that this was now working. Any purchases from the PlayStation Store that hadn’t shown up in-game will automatically reflect the next time you play.
- Some Simmers with packs noticed that every time a new session was started, the new content notification screens would display. We know you are excited when you buy a new pack, but this reminder was not intentional and has been resolved.
- Simmers using a controller reported that opening an upload while the Gallery was still populating would put the game into a soft lock requiring a restart. This should no longer happen.
- The 200 Moola tier was missing for our Simmers on the Japanese PlayStation Store. This is available on all platforms in all territories.
- PlayStation Simmers may have noticed that when going to the PlayStation Store from the Marketplace, you wouldn’t have seen information about the pack you wanted to know more about. This has been updated and you will be presented with the pack details on the PlayStation Store once again.
