A few days ago, it emerged that Guerilla Games, a studio beloved by Sony fans, is working on a new project, not necessarily the one fans were expecting. The studio recently unveiled Horizon Hunters Gathering, a cooperative action game currently in development for PS5 and PC. Naturally, this sparked questions about the future of the Horizon series and whether a mainline installment is in the works. We now know a little more, thanks to an interview with Kotaku, and PS6 is seemingly on the horizon.
Could the next Horizon be a PS6 game?
There’s reason to wonder. Horizon Forbidden West launched more than three years ago and was widely praised for its artistic vision and dense open world. Since then, the series has seen three additional releases. The spin-off Horizon Call of the Mountain, the Burning Shores DLC for Forbidden West, and LEGO Horizon Adventures in 2024, which transformed Alloy’s world into a playful LEGO universe. But since then, news of the next main entry has been scarce. Kotaku reported that this next project “still a ways off,” probably aiming at a PS6 release, as most of Guerilla’s team is focused on Horizon Hunters Gathering. Part of the team originally working on Horizon 3 has even been reassigned to support this new game.
Another source told the outlet that fans may not see Alloy’s next adventure for at least “three to five years,” suggesting that the sequel could be planned for Sony’s next-generation console. The timeline aligns with recent reporting by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier. While neither Sony nor Guerilla Games have officially commented, it seems increasingly likely that the next Horizon Zero Dawn installment is destined for the PS6.
