It’s been four years since the release of God of War Ragnarok, and since then, no new projects have been officially announced by the studio. Still, the team has been quietly hard at work behind the scenes. One project, in particular, has long been the subject of speculation, and new rumors are now circulating online. When, or if, an official reveal might come ?
God of War or something new? Santa Monica has more than one trick up its sleeve
PlayStation is lining up a series of announcements. A new State of Play is scheduled for Thursday, February 12. While third-party publishers will surely be part of the show, Sony fans are hoping for glimpses of upcoming PS5 exclusives. Naturally, the big question is: will Santa Monica Studio appear? Rumors have long hinted at a Metroidvania-style God of War, but that isn’t the only project reportedly keeping the studio busy.
Cory Barlog, the creative mind behind the soft reboot of Kratos’ adventures, is said to be leading another development that could catch players off guard. Some speculation suggested a sci-fi game, though journalist Jason Schreier has disputed those claims. Whether true or not, curiosity is at an all-time high. Insider Nate the Hate, who often shares reliable unofficial info, reportedly has details about Barlog’s next project. While he hasn’t heard anything about a potential reveal at the upcoming State of Play, he can’t rule it out, and he remains confident that an announcement will come sometime in 2026. According to him, the likeliest window might be next summer.
