The 2025 Game Awards may not have delivered the news Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic fans were hoping for, but they certainly didn’t leave empty-handed. In fact, Casey Hudson, the creator of the original game, used the event to announce his next project, Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic, an ambitious spiritual sequel to KOTOR. So ambitious, in fact, that rumors suggest it could be a PS7 title.
Could the New Star Wars Game Be a PS7 Title?
In the hours following the 2025 Game Awards, journalist Jason Schreier took to Bluesky to weigh in on the surprise announcement of Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic. He called it “the biggest surprise” of the evening but cautioned fans that it could be a long wait. According to Schreier, the game might even be slated for the PS7. “Exciting news for lots of people… but Lucasfilm says the studio was founded this year, which means that 2030 is an optimistic guess”, Schreier wrote. “Maybe it’ll be a PS7 game“.
Given Schreier’s credibility, the comment quickly went viral, triggering a wave of disappointed reactions from Star Wars fans. One user on X summed it up: “Being a Star Wars fan means suffering eternally.” Despite Schreier’s usual reliability, this information should be taken with a pinch of salt. As the news quickly gained traction, Casey Hudson, the game’s creator, stepped in to clear the air and reassure fans. “Don’t worry about the “not till 2030” rumors. Game will be out before then.” Hudson stated. “I’m not getting any younger!” he added, underscoring his eagerness to avoid a prolonged development process.

So, while Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic may be ambitious, it won’t be a PS7 title. It’s slated for release on the next-gen PS6 and Xbox consoles. That said, don’t expect it anytime soon. As Hudson mentioned during the Game Awards, “We are only at the beginning of development.” In other words, Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic has several years of development ahead, but if everything goes to plan, it should launch before 2030.
