While the studio’s primary focus is on a new trilogy centered around Ciri, it has a unified long-term vision that ties all of its projects together. Despite new trends emerging in the RPG genre, CD Projekt RED has no intention of simply copying them for Cyberpunk 2 or its other upcoming games. In short, don’t expect to see a Baldur’s Gate 3-inspired approach in either Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel or The Witcher 4.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Will Inspire the Next Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 4 Games
Baldur’s Gate 3 has undeniably made a significant impact on the gaming and RPG worlds. With its highly successful launch, impressive sales, and the excitement it generated among players, it quickly became a standout title. However, despite Baldur’s Gate 3’s success and the influence it has had on the RPG genre, CD Projekt RED is determined to stay true to its own creative vision. Rather than simply following the trends set by others, the studio plans to apply its unique approach to the upcoming Cyberpunk 2 (or whatever its name will be) and The Witcher 4.
Michał Nowakowski, co-CEO of CD Projekt RED, shared his thoughts on the influence of Baldur’s Gate 3 in an interview with PC Gamer, saying, « There was a lot of inspiration in what Baldur’s Gate 3 did, but I think we’re still sticking to what was in The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. » This statement highlights the studio’s commitment to retaining the distinctive elements that made their previous titles so successful. While Cyberpunk 2 and The Witcher 4 will undoubtedly build upon the DNA of their predecessors, they won’t be mere graphical upgrades or rehashes. Innovation and creative evolution will remain central to their development process.

CD Projekt RED is Staying True to Its Own Vision
« We don’t want to just make another game like that, just with better graphics. We do want to innovate. But we definitely are not going to make a game like Larian did. That’s the kind of game they can make. But a lot of stuff with how they can interact with the world and what it does was, for sure, some inspiration to us. », Nowakowski explained further. This statement suggests that while CD Projekt RED is inspired by the way Baldur’s Gate 3 handles player interaction and world-building, the studio will approach these concepts in a way that aligns with its own strengths and vision.
But fans can expect even more immersive worlds and dynamic player interactions in both Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel and The Witcher 4. Despite its commitment to its core design philosophy, CD Projekt RED is also exploring more unconventional projects. While the primary teams focus on refining the beloved Cyberpunk and Witcher franchises, secondary studios within the company are working on experimental spin-offs. One notable example is The Witcher Sirius, a multiplayer game that promises to be a somewhat departure from the studio’s typical approach. However, fans will have to wait several years before they can experience this new direction, as the game is not expected to be released for some time.
