Last week brought a series of surprising announcements for PlayStation gamers. Alongside the unexpected return of Ratchet & Clank in a new format, Sony officially revealed a long-rumored project: Horizon Zero Dawn: Steel Frontier, an MMORPG set in the game’s universe. But don’t worry Horizon 3 remains on the roadmap, even if its release may be longer than expected.
Horizon 3 Might Be a Long Way Off
Following announcements related to NCSoft, Guerrilla shared updates on its own projects. Horizon 3 was confirmed shortly after Horizon Forbidden West, and the studio also hinted at an in-house multiplayer game on social media. « We’ve loved collaborating with NCSOFT and are beyond excited to be able to hunt machines together in the world of Horizon – at Guerrilla, we’re still busily working on more ways for you to do just that. More on that to come.», the company said.
The downside: this mysterious multiplayer project is reportedly Guerrilla’s « next big project », which may push back the release of Horizon 3. Industry journalist Jason Schreier clarified the situation in a recent BlueSky post: « Just to clear up some confusion I’ve seen, the newly announced NCSoft Horizon MMO is different from the multiplayer Horizon game that’s in development at Guerrilla Games. That one is Guerrilla’s next big project », he explained.
Rumors of an in-house multiplayer title have circulated for years alongside speculation about Horizon Forbidden West. While details remain scarce, Schreier’s insights suggest the multiplayer game could arrive before Horizon 3, potentially pushing the sequel further down the timeline. Of course, this is still unconfirmed. But Schreier’s track record gives weight to the claims. One thing is clear: Horizon fans won’t be bored anytime soon. Between Horizon Forbidden West, Horizon 3, Guerrilla’s multiplayer game, and the upcoming film adaptation, the franchise’s universe is set to expand for years to come.
