Rumors have been circulating for months. After the “remaster” of Red Dead Redemption on PS4 and Nintendo Switch, its sequel was widely assumed to be next in line. Back in August 2023, Rockstar made headlines by announcing a port of RDR on those platforms, complete with enhanced 4K visuals on Sony’s console and the Undead Nightmare DLC. Two years later, speculation grew even stronger: Red Dead Redemption 2 was reportedly on track for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Those whispers were gaining real traction, until Rockstar unexpectedly unveiled native versions of the first game for PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and even mobile via Netflix. But fans shouldn’t give up hope for RDR2 just yet.
Red Dead Redemption 2 ports for Switch 2 and PS5 not ruled out
That’s according to insider Nate the Hate, who is generally well-informed and was among the first to hint at the project. With a solid track record on Nintendo Switch 2 leaks and broader PlayStation news, he remains a credible source, though, as always, caution is advised. He stated on social media that the announcement of native RDR1 versions « doesn’t negate Red Dead Redemption 2 happening », responding to questions from several users. According to information he shared earlier this year, an enhanced version of RDR2 was originally planned to launch a few months after the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. Five months later, Arthur Morgan and the gang are still nowhere to be found.
« I said I was told it would come a few months after SW2 launch — which is info from the start of 2025. GTA6 has since been delayed and R* does whatever they want. Release timelines can change », he wrote on Twitter. All signs still suggest that Red Dead Redemption 2 will eventually trot its way onto PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series. The real mystery now is when, with early 2026 looking increasingly likely.
In the meantime, fans of the franchise will soon be able to return to the Wild West with John Marston. Red Dead Redemption will launch on PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and mobile via Netflix on December 2, 2025.
