Here’s the date you won’t want to miss

Barely hours after Gamescom 2026 closed its doors, Sony is already moving to steal the spotlight. Just hours after rumors of a September State of Play began circulating, hardly a surprise in itself, the Japanese publisher has made it official. And as it turns out, players are getting two for the price of one.

The September State of Play is confirmed

The date is set: September 3rd at 6:00am PT / 9:00am ET time for Sony’s next major PS5-focused showcase. The company has already confirmed that this State of Play will give equal billing to PlayStation Studios titles and partner games alike. FF7 Revelation will close out the presentation, the runtime of which has yet to be revealed. Immediately after, Sony will hand things over to a new State of Play Japan, hosted by Yuki Kaji, with a focus on games from Japan and Asia, including new gameplay sequences, fresh announcements, and more.

What games can we expect?

Beyond FF7 Revelation, which has clearly shifted into full marketing mode, what else can we realistically expect from this State of Play? A few PlayStation Studios titles feel like near-certainties: God of War Laufey, the exclusive targeting a February 16th release, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which still has no release date, and Until Dawn 2, penciled in for 2027. Sony’s upcoming live service titles may also make an appearance, Fairgame$, the new game from Jade Raymond (Assassin’s Creed), and Horizon Steel Frontier from NCSoft are both possibilities. Horizon Hunters Gathering from Guerrilla, however, seems unlikely given reports that it’s going back to the drawing board. The chances of first images from a God of War Remake feel less certain, and a Bloodborne remake even more so. There’s also the lingering question of what Media Molecule has been quietly working on for the past few years.

On the third-party front, Resident Evil Veronica was conspicuously absent from Gamescom 2026, making this a natural moment for it to resurface. Several already-announced titles should use the State of Play’s platform to show more, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Rayman Legends Retold, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and Final Fantasy Resonance all feel like strong candidates. On the indie side, Little Devil Inside, from which we’ve heard nothing in far too long, and Kena: Scars of Kosmora could both make appearances. From Asia, a State of Play without Phantom Blade Zero or Stranger Than Heaven is increasingly hard to imagine. Personally, we’re also hoping for new footage of Black Myth: Zhong Kui, and perhaps even Kemuri, the new game from Ikumi Nakamura announced for 2027.

Potential September 2026 State of Play announcements

FF7 Revelation (confirmed)

God of War Laufey

Until Dawn 2

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

Horizon Steel Frontier

God of War Remake

Media Molecule’s next game

Resident Evil Veronica

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis

Rayman Legends Retold

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

Final Fantasy Resonance

Little Devil Inside

Phantom Blade Zero

Stranger Than Heaven

Black Myth: Zhong Kui

Kena: Scars of Kosmora

Kemuri

Source: PlayStation

[1
59,61
post-73191","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-ps5","tag-state-of-play","generate-columns","tablet-grid-50","mobile-grid-100","grid-parent","grid-33
["GET
