With more than 17.37 million units sold in just six months, the new machine is clearly off to a strong start. But as Nintendo has just shared its latest financial results, it is once again the original Nintendo Switch that is stealing the spotlight.

The Nintendo Switch makes history once again

And for good reason. Nine years after its launch, the Nintendo Switch has officially become the best-selling console in Nintendo’s history. With 155.37 million units sold worldwide since 2017, it has now surpassed the Nintendo DS, which sold 154.02 million units during its lifetime. This marks the end of a reign that began in 2004 for Nintendo’s iconic handheld, which nonetheless remains the third best-selling console of all time.

With this milestone, the Nintendo Switch now sits just behind Sony’s PlayStation 2 in the all-time sales rankings. Long considered untouchable, the PS2 has sold over 160 million units. At the current pace, however, that record no longer seems completely out of reach for Nintendo’s hybrid console. That said, the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2 could eventually slow sales of the original model, making the final stretch more challenging.

Still, the extraordinary success of the first-generation Switch may well serve as a launchpad for Nintendo’s future ambitions. Whether the Switch 2 can one day rival Sony’s long-standing record remains to be seen. For now, one thing is clear: the Nintendo Switch hasn’t said its last word, and Nintendo continues to operate at an impressive level. With a busy 2026 on the horizon, the momentum shows no sign of fading.

Source : Nintendo

[1
43
post-72236","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-nintendo-switch","generate-columns","tablet-grid-50","mobile-grid-100","grid-parent","grid-33
["GET
