The Director Has Some Disappointing News For You

All it took was a short video to ignite the speculation. Over the weekend, Geoff Keighley posted an image teasing what is likely to be one of the biggest announcements at The Game Awards, scheduled for December 11. The image featured an imposing sculpture in the middle of the desert, surrounded by undead creatures, bears, and armored breastplates, with a nearly alien-looking creature at its center. Instantly, gamers across forums and social media began to speculate wildly: Half-Life 3, The Elder Scrolls 6, Saros, and, of course, the next God of War. Just when it seemed like the mystery was solved, it took another twist.

No God of War “Egypt” at The Game Awards 2025

On Monday, December 1, journalist Jez Corden appeared to end the speculation. He claimed that the image was not related to a new game, but rather the next major expansion for Diablo 4, slated for 2026. Fans accepted this theory… until it was quickly debunked. Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, whose accuracy is well-established, stepped in to refute Corden’s claim. According to Schreier, the image has nothing to do with Diablo 4 or its expansion. So, what is it? God of War Egypt, a dream too good to be true? The Elder Scrolls 6, finally after all these years? Or perhaps Half-Life 3, emerging from the depths of gaming lore?

Schreier, however, wasn’t ready to reveal the answer. “I don’t currently plan on reporting what it is, sorry, but it’s a good one.” With that, speculation is back in full swing. But one possibility has now been ruled out: God of War. Cory Barlog, the creative director of the franchise, put an end to the rumors during a live stream where fans were discussing the teaser. He confirmed that the image is not related to the next God of War game. “No, it’s not GoW,” he said, dashing the hopes of many.

However, that doesn’t mean the God of War franchise will be absent from The Game Awards 2025. There’s a persistent rumor of a 2.5D Metroidvania-style spin-off set in ancient Greece, before Kratos became a god. This announcement seems far more likely than a new full installment. We’ll have to wait until next week’s The Game Awards 2025 to finally get the answers, and to see if there’s any hint of God of War after all.

Source : Jason Schreier, Cory Barlog

[1
76,59
post-71838","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-god-of-war","tag-ps5","generate-columns","tablet-grid-50","mobile-grid-100","grid-parent","grid-33
["GET
