The past few days have seen a steady stream of leaks pointing to a packed 2026 lineup, with several unexpected announcements potentially on the horizon. Among them: a new The Legend of Zelda remake, and it sounds like it won’t be arriving alone.
A Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch 2 could be on the way
As reported just a few days ago, Nintendo appears to have quietly assembled a lineup of surprises for 2026, even if a new 3D Mario to properly mark the franchise’s 40th anniversary isn’t among them. A new Star Fox adventure is reportedly in the works, and according to well-connected insider Nate the Hate, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is set to receive a full remake, potentially landing on Nintendo Switch 2 before the end of 2026. And it may not be arriving on its own.
Determined to turn the return of this iconic entry into a genuine event for fans, Nintendo is reportedly also planning a limited edition Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch 2 to mark the occasion. That’s the claim from Shpeshal Nick, another quite reliable insider, in a tweet posted just hours ago. “As a follow up, from what I’ve been told we’re getting a Zelda themed Limited Edition Switch 2 console. Not sure if the game will be bundled or not,” he wrote.
The details, however, remain thin. Shpeshal Nick stops short of clarifying whether the console will be specifically themed around Ocarina of Time, or whether it will be a broader Legend of Zelda collector’s edition, which would be fitting, given that the franchise celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2026. Either way, it’s the kind of announcement that would send fans into a frenzy, and could well become the Nintendo Switch 2’s first truly iconic collector’s edition.
