The loudest criticisms leveled at the Nintendo Switch 2 at launch are slowly but surely fading into the background. The price hasn’t budged, a few solid deals aside (especially in Europe), but the library is growing at a remarkable pace, and 2026 is shaping up to be the year Nintendo truly cements its new console’s identity.

Pokemon Pokopia shifted around 2 million copies in its launch week alone, Animal Crossing welcomed a new wave of islanders, Mario Tennis made its long-awaited return, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder came back stronger than ever with a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 update. It’s just the beginning, and the console’s next major exclusive is now only weeks away. A comeback that nostalgic 3DS fans have been desperately waiting thirteen years for, and one you can now try for free.

A free demo for the next Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive

Completely unhinged songs that still do the rounds on social media and TikTok to this day. Timeless memes. Hours spent under the covers with a 3DS, watching your Miis spiral into increasingly crazy situations. Tomodachi Life holds a genuinely unique place in Nintendo’s catalog, calling its return, 13 years later on Nintendo Switch 2, “eagerly anticipated” would be a dramatic understatement.

For a certain kind of Nintendo fan, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is nothing short of their Half-Life 3, the long-awaited sequel they had quietly convinced themselves would never come. Nintendo appears to have approached this one without compromise. Gender identity options are more expansive and clearly defined, and incest storylines have been properly replaced with genuine family dynamics. The creativity ceiling looks higher than ever, and you don’t need to wait until April 16th to dive in. A free demo is available right now on Nintendo Switch 2.

What does the demo include?

The demo lets you create your first 3 Miis and start looking after them straight away. Any progress made carries over directly into the full game once purchased, so nothing is lost. As a bonus, every player who completes the demo will receive a hamster costume for their Miis. Head to the Nintendo eShop on your console, or use the link below to get started. One word of warning though: once you’ve unlocked your third character, avoid the clothing shop at all costs. Visiting it will trap your Miis at home and prevent any further interactions, which will bring the demo to an abrupt end.
