It’s Official: Starfield Won’t Have Its Cyberpunk 2077 Moment, And One Major Announcement Has Already Leaked

It’s been one of gaming’s worst-kept secrets for months. Starfield is widely expected to make its way to PS5 in the near future, alongside a significant update aimed at giving the space RPG a much-needed shot in the arm. Several content creators who attended a private preview weeks ago came away glowing, with some drawing bold comparisons to Cyberpunk 2077‘s extraordinary redemption arc. It’s easy to forget just how disastrous that game’s launch was back in 2020, but CD Projekt Red’s RPG clawed its way back through sheer perseverance, and a transformative update eventually turned it into the modern classic it’s considered today. Bethesda, however, wants to make one thing crystal clear: Starfield is not going down that road.

One of Starfield’s major announcements has already leaked

Todd Howard himself stepped up to cool things down. In a recent interview, the Bethesda head put any Starfield 2.0 talk firmly to bed. The message was straightforward: if the game didn’t win you over the first time, the upcoming update, no matter how substantial, isn’t going to change that. What’s coming has been built for the players who were already on board, as well as for the wave of new players set to experience it for the first time very soon. And that, of course, points to the Starfield announcement everyone has been waiting for: the PS5 port, which has been an open secret for so long it barely qualifies as news anymore.

The wait, however, is almost over. Major announcements around Starfield are expected sometime this week, with no precise date confirmed. “Todd Howard appreciates all the passionate feedback on Starfield and we’ll have more to share next week,” Bethesda wrote on its social channels over the weekend. But it seems we won’t need to wait for the official reveal to know exactly when the PS5 version of Starfield is landing. Portuguese retailer GamingReplay has once again listed an April 7, 2026 release date at €49.99, a figure that aligns neatly with leaks from BillBil-Kun published back in February. For everything else, like what’s actually inside the big update, and news on the second expansion, check back later this week.
