If recent rumours are to be believed, The Witcher 3 is expected to receive its third official DLC in the coming months, 10 years after its release. This DLC is expected to bridge the gap between The Wild Hunt and the upcoming The Witcher 4. While we await confirmation from CD Projekt RED, players could be motivated to dive back into a new adventure with Geralt by a fan initiative to restore content cut from the base game and its existing expansions. A word of caution, however: the cut content in question may contain major plot spoilers, even though the game was released many years ago. Read the rest of this article at your own risk.
Operating restauration on The Witcher 3 while waiting for its sequel
The fan initiative in question, codenamed Brothers in Arms, is currently only accessible on PC and can be downloaded from Nexus Mods. This mod contains almost 6,000 fixes affecting quests, scenes, NPCs, gameplay and much more in The Witcher 3. But its main appeal lies in restoring a multitude of cut content, such as a romantic scene with Yennefer. The latest update goes even further by “restoring a new storyline: Shani’s Fate’. As YouTuber xLetalis explains, this plot point provides a better justification for Shani’s return in the Hearts of Stone expansion, the first DLC for The Witcher 3.
The Brothers in Arms team discovered unused dialogue in which Gaunter O’Dimm threatens to kill Shani if Geralt does not help him. This will indeed happen in the restored storyline if you are not careful. As these restored passages were fully voiced, it’s reasonable to conclude that they were in an advanced stage of development prior to the release of the first DLC for The Witcher 3.
It’s worth noting that this initiative is an ongoing project which regularly unearths new gems from the depths of the code of CD Projekt RED’s masterpiece. Other surprises may occur before the release of The Witcher 4, or potentially sooner, with the third DLC for The Witcher 3 reportedly due to be released around May 2026 at an estimated price of 30 dollars.
