Since the start of the year, Nintendo has arguably been the most talkative of the major players in the industry. The company is known for unveiling its projects little by little, sometimes spreading announcements across multiple Nintendo Direct presentations, and the past few weeks have been no exception. We’ve had a brief teaser for a new Super Mario Galaxy trailer, a much more in-depth presentation focused on Tomodachi Life, and finally a larger showcase highlighting third-party titles. But if the rumors are to be believed, the company isn’t done yet. Another big Nintendo Direct could air very soon.
A new Nintendo Direct built around a long-awaited blockbuster soon?
For now, this remains pure speculation. Nintendo has made no official announcement, but several well-known insiders insist that something is in the works. During one of their podcasts, Attackdabacklog and Nash Weedle claimed that a Nintendo Direct is reportedly scheduled for the third week of February. According to their source, the same one who accurately predicted Donkey Kong Bananza, the presentation would primarily focus on a brand-new 3D Mario game.
It has been nearly ten years since the last mainline 3D Mario title, Super Mario Odyssey, launched on Nintendo Switch. Rumors of Mario’s return to the third dimension have been circulating for months, but none until now had been this specific about a potential reveal. That said, this information should be taken with a grain of salt. Not only is it unofficial, but the insiders in question have previously generated buzz that ultimately led nowhere. Still, a Nintendo Direct centered on the company’s upcoming exclusives would certainly make waves early in the year. And this isn’t the first time such an event has been mentioned, another source brought it up just a few days ago.

What’s certain, however, is that Nintendo news is heating up. After several recent Nintendo Direct presentations, it will soon be the Pokemon franchise’s turn to step into the spotlight for Pokémon Day. As always, expectations are sky-high, with fans eagerly awaiting potential news about Gen 10, which many believe could arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 in the near future.
