In an era where technology is constantly evolving and offering users more and more features, it can sometimes be difficult to keep track of every detail, even for those whose job it is. Streamer Northernlion recently learned this the hard way, resulting in a rather amusing live moment. While playing Counter-Strike with friends, he discovered a new option that completely changed his experience, to the point where he felt like he had upgraded to a PS7.
“It looks like I just got a PS7.”
Of course, this was clearly an exaggeration meant to entertain his audience. Still, the situation caught the attention of many internet users, a lot of whom have probably experienced something similar at some point. In this case, it all started with a message displayed by Counter-Strike as Northernlion was about to launch the game. The message warned that his display supported a 165Hz mode but was currently running at 60Hz, and recommended using the highest refresh rate available for an optimal gaming experience.
A perfectly reasonable suggestion, but one that made Northernlion hesitate. “Is this good?” he asked his friends. “Won’t it mess up my setup?” Their answer was reassuring: it would “change his life, and for the better”. Unsurprisingly, once the next Counter-Strike match began, the streamer’s reaction was immediate. “This looks incredible!” he exclaimed, to the amusement of his teammates, who were stunned that he had never properly configured his monitor before. “It looks like I just got a PS7, it’s amazing!”
Beyond the humor, the moment perfectly illustrates the idea that performance means little without proper settings, and shows just how much a higher refresh rate can transform the gaming experience, far beyond simple smoothness.
