It had been quite some time since any official word surfaced about GTA 6, leaving fans to rely almost entirely on scattered rumors. One recent report, in particular, caused a stir by claiming that the game would not receive a physical release at launch. The rumor suggested that GTA 6 would be a digital-only title, a prospect that understandably worried collectors and long-time fans. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, has now responded decisively.
GTA 6 reassures fans with welcome news
In an interview with Variety, Zelnick addressed the topic of physical game releases and delivered a notably reassuring message. The rumor originated from PPE.pl, which cited a source claiming that GTA 6 was not currently planned for a physical release. At the time, the information seemed credible: the source had proven reliable in the past, and PPE.pl noted that they operate within a sector closely tied to physical game distribution.
Context also fueled speculation. The development of GTA 6 has been repeatedly disrupted by leaks, ranging from large-scale hacking incidents to internal information breaches. Given Rockstar and Take-Two’s history with such issues, it was reasonable to assume that tighter security measures, including limiting physical copies, might be considered to prevent further leaks, theft, or premature distribution ahead of launch.
However, Zelnick has now put those concerns to rest. His position is clear: there are no plans to abandon physical releases or implement special restrictions. GTA 6 is indeed scheduled to launch in physical format on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. As for the PC version, it has yet to be officially confirmed, though its arrival seems all but inevitable. That said, PC players will likely need to exercise patience, as Rockstar has historically released PC versions well after the console launch, as was the case with GTA 5. For now, console players and physical collectors can breathe easy: GTA 6 will arrive on store shelves as expected.
