Although the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 remains deep in development at the Polish studio, a key member of the team has already shed some light on the artistic direction of Cyberpunk 2. In particular, he addressed the game’s approach to cutscenes and immersion, a subject of long-standing interest among fans eagerly awaiting the RPG. As expected, a release date for Cyberpunk 2 is not on the horizon. The project is still in its early stages, having entered pre-production in early 2025. That said, creative director Igor Sarzynski recently shared his thoughts on BlueSky, offering insight into one of the studio’s guiding principles.
CD Projekt RED Might Be Doubling Down on Immersion in Cyberpunk 2
Reflecting on screenshots taken during the development of the Phantom Liberty expansion, Sarzynski commented on the absence of traditional cutscenes in the series. “Gotta admit setting up cutscenes in this game would be extremely pleasant (coz everything looks mind-blowingly amazing) but in the end I value our uninterrupted immersion more”, he wrote.
CP 2077 largely avoided conventional cutscenes, instead keeping the player fully immersed through first-person animations and in-engine storytelling. This approach echoed the philosophy popularized by Half-Life, which helped redefine narrative delivery in first-person games. It is a design choice CD Projekt RED clearly remains committed to,and one that is likely to carry over into Cyberpunk 2. That said, players will need patience. With CD Projekt RED currently focused on the development of The Witcher 4, early projections suggest that Cyberpunk 2 is still several years away from release.
