After more than a decade in the wilderness, Fable is finally preparing its return under the banner of Playground Games, a studio already juggling more than a few high-profile projects. Naturally, the upcoming Developer_Direct has raised expectations, with players hoping to learn more about the reboot. But 2026 will also see the return of another familiar name from the series’ past: Peter Molyneux. Yes, the original creator of Fable is back with a new project of his own.
Fable’s Creator Announces Release Date for New Game
First announced in 2023, Masters of Albion had largely faded from view in recent months. According to 22cans, however, development has continued steadily behind the scenes, with Molyneux and his team aiming to deliver what they describe as “god game that goes beyond the genre.” A bold claim, though one that fits neatly with the designer’s long-standing reputation and ambitions. Like Fable before it, Masters of Albion places strong emphasis on player choice and a world shaped by moral decisions. Its narrative promises political intrigue, shifting alliances, and the rise and fall of rulers, all set within a fantasy universe infused with magic and divine powers. Whether the execution will live up to the intent remains to be seen.
On the gameplay side, Masters of Albion blends simulation and strategy within a day-night cycle. Daytime is dedicated to building, managing, and maintaining the city of Albion and its surrounding landscape, while nights are reserved for defending the settlement against waves of hostile creatures, from zombies and werewolves to trolls, with destruction management becoming part of the challenge. The experience is rounded out by hero customization and an open world that 22cans promises will be filled with discoveries across multiple regions. Masters of Albion is currently scheduled to launch on PC on April 22, 2026. It should at least provide something to keep an eye on while the release date of the next Fable remains, for now, unknown.
