Red Dead Redemption Fans Will Want to Keep an Eye on This New Open-World Game

Over the past few months, numerous rumors have circulated about the possible arrival of a next-generation version of Red Dead Redemption 2. Yet as the end of 2025 approaches, there has still been no official word. Fortunately, fans of Western-themed games have other ways to scratch that itch. While the re-release of the original Red Dead Redemption is one option, the recent announcement of Westlanders is certainly another.

Westlanders, a new Western fix for Red Dead Redemption players ?

Developed by The Breach Studios, Westlanders is an open-world game that blends exploration, survival, crafting, building, and management within a Western-inspired setting. The experience can be enjoyed solo or cooperatively, with players traversing harsh landscapes and expanding their influence across a vast frontier using a customizable mobile base: the Wagon that serves as the heart of their operations.

This alternative to Red Dead Redemption promises a dynamic and living open world, featuring multiple biomes, expansive territories to explore, and a wide range of resources to gather and tools to craft. Beyond simple survival, Westlanders emphasizes growth and progression. Players and fans of Red Dead Redemption will be able to establish and develop outposts and settlements, recruit companions, and build an economic network capable of supporting long-term expansion and shaping a lasting legacy in the wilderness.

This ambitious project is designed to evolve alongside its community. To support that goal, Westlanders will launch in Early Access on PC in 2026 before making its way to PS5 and Xbox Series consoles at a later date. The game will also be accompanied by a Kickstarter campaign planned for early 2026, allowing players to directly contribute to its development. According to studio director Ferran Punti, this combination of Kickstarter and Early Access will enable the team to collaborate closely with passionate players, refining gameplay systems and balancing the experience ahead of its console release.

With the Kickstarter campaign launching early next year, more details about this perfect stopgap for Red Dead Redemption fans should emerge soon. In the meantime, The Breach Studios has shared a first teaser trailer and a detailed overview of the game’s mechanics on Steam, offering an early glimpse of what to expect from this Western survival adventure.
