It’s one of the most eagerly anticipated projects of the coming years. While FF7 Rebirth is still set to launch on Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2 in the not-so-distant future, all eyes are already on its successor, the episode that will conclude the FF7 Remake trilogy. Although it’s still several years away, the third installment is keeping Tetsuya Nomura and his team fully occupied, deeply immersed in what we can assume is intense development. Square Enix executives have been teasing bits of information about FF7 Remake 3, and here’s the latest update.
Expect a Fresh Experience for FF7 Remake 3
While some fans continue to hold out hope for a FF9 Remake, others remain grounded, patiently awaiting the conclusion of Cloud and his party’s journey. The third episode is not expected to release for several years, although producer Motomu Toriyama had promised updates on FF7 Remake 3 before the end of the year. With the 2025 Game Awards just around the corner on December 11, all eyes are now on that event. Naoki Hamaguchi, the project director, shared some intriguing tidbits during an interview with Julien Chièze.
Hamaguchi confirmed that the term “Highwind,” a direct reference to the iconic airship that will play a major role in the final installment, will be an important “keyword” for FF7 Remake 3, although he remained tight-lipped on further details. Previously, Hamaguchi revealed that players would be able to freely pilot the Highwind across the open world in this chapter. “We will not make compromises,” he stated. He also reiterated the team’s commitment to not simply rehash past games, but to offer something truly fresh in both experience and scale.

Is an Announcement at the 2025 Game Awards Possible?
The final title for the game is still undecided. In the same interview, Hamaguchi mentioned that he and Tetsuya Nomura had narrowed down the options to two potential names, with a final decision expected by the end of the year. Speculation is already running wild within the fan community, with “Reunion” emerging as a strong contender. While the entire development team is now fully focused on this third installment, Square Enix is not expected to make any major announcements about FF7 Remake 3 in the immediate future. However, a brief teaser, perhaps revealing the game’s title, at the 2025 Game Awards remains a possibility.
