Released on December 10, 2020, Cyberpunk 2077‘s launch was plagued by delays and controversy, particularly with the PS4 and Xbox One versions, which were nearly unplayable. However, through dedicated work, CD Projekt Red has managed to restore both the game’s reputation and its own, turning the futuristic RPG into a well-regarded title that’s now recognized for its true value. As the fifth anniversary approaches, the studio is teasing a special surprise for the occasion.
Five Years of Cyberpunk 2077 in Night City: Time to Celebrate
Although CD Projekt Red is currently focused on developing The Witcher 4, set for release around 2027/2028, and the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, which is still in the early stages of development at the studio’s Boston office, the first game continues to receive attention through occasional updates. Recent updates have made the game compatible with Mac and even brought a port for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. In a post on the official Cyberpunk 2077 X.com account, the studio shared a cryptic message referencing the December 2025 calendar: “SECURE COMMS CHANNEL ESTABLISHED. STANDBY FOR INCOMING PRIORITY TRANSMISSION.”
The calendar highlights several key dates: the game’s anniversary on December 10, Solomon Reed’s birthday on December 12, and So Mi Song’s birthday on December 29, both major characters from the Phantom Liberty DLC. We’ll need to keep an eye on this calendar to see if CD Projekt Red has a “priority transmission” in store for us, possibly in the form of a stream showcasing something new for Cyberpunk 2077. Could it be a significant update or the much-rumored DLC being developed in partnership with Virtuos? While it’s unlikely that the studio will announce anything about Cyberpunk 2, which is still years away, anything’s possible. Be sure to check back in the coming days to find out!
