The Game Awards season is officially underway. Earlier this week, Geoff Keighley revealed the nominees for this year’s awards, which are set to shine a spotlight on smaller-scale productions like never before. With heavy hitters like Split Fiction, Hades 2, and Hollow Knight Silksong leading the nominations, an unprecedented situation is unfolding. In this context, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is making a remarkable splash, standing out brighter than ever.

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 dominates the 2025 Game Awards

While Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Ghost of Yotei lead with seven nominations each, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 takes the crown as the standout of The Game Awards 2025, securing a total of twelve nominations. This number is still provisional, as it remains to be seen whether Sandfall Interactive’s debut title will win all ten of its nominations, eleven if it earns a nod in the Players’ Voice category.

For a debut title from a new studio, this is a significant achievement, making Clair Obscur Expedition 33 the most-nominated game in the history of The Game Awards so far. The previous record was held by The Last of Us Part II, which earned eleven nominations in 2020. The Sandfall team, naturally, was left speechless, expressing their astonishment with a simple “WHAT” posted on social media when the nominees were announced.

Given the immense anticipation surrounding Clair Obscur Expedition 33 since its release in April, the game’s success comes as no surprise. The big question now is whether this French RPG will dominate the awards ceremony. Notably, in addition to being nominated for Game of the Year, the title is also in the running for several prestigious categories, including Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Soundtrack, and Best Performance.
