Zelda The Movie: First Leaked Images Reveal Link and Zelda’s Look

The colossal success of Super Mario Bros.: The Movie has given Nintendo a major boost. With $1.3 billion in global box office revenue, the film adaptation of the world’s most famous plumber’s adventures has fueled Big N’s desire to bring more of its iconic characters to the big screen. While Mario and Luigi are set to return to cinemas next April to dazzle audiences once again, another major project is in the works: a live-action film based on The Legend of Zelda. While details about the project remain scarce for now, filming has officially begun, and the first images have been leaked, offering a sneak peek at what Link and Princess Zelda will look like.

Here are the first images from the Zelda movie

Scheduled for release in the United States on May 7, 2027, the The Legend of Zelda film will be produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment, under the close supervision of Nintendo. Wes Ball, known for The Maze Runner saga and The Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom, will direct the film. Ball faces the challenging task of bringing the enchanting world of Zelda and the kingdom of Hyrule to life through live-action. His vision is clear: to offer a fresh perspective on this beloved universe while carefully respecting its essence, atmosphere, and soul. With high expectations surrounding the project, the first leaked images from the filming of The Legend of Zelda, currently taking place in New Zealand, should provide some relief to eager fans.

On the morning of November 15, 2025, several clips from the film appeared online. The most important update: Dichen Lachman, recently lauded for her performance in the Apple TV series Severance, has been confirmed as part of the film’s cast. Although these initial images don’t reveal any major new details, they do provide a first look at the costumes of Zelda (played by Bo Bragason) and Link (played by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth), which, as expected, are faithful to the designs from the latest video games in the series. While we’ll have to wait for official images for a clearer view, it seems that the project is heading in the right direction.
